A history of Ysl
Founded in 1961, Yves Saint Laurent is one of the greatest fashion names of the late 20th century. Yves worked for Christian Dior before setting up his own fashion house in the early 60s that produced groundbreaking designs. YSL was the first Couture house to launch women’s ready to wear clothing, in a 1966 collection called Rive Gauche. YSL Rive Gauche boutiques quickly followed on worldwide making luxury labels available to a wider public. In 1999 the Gucci Group acquired YSL and with Tom Ford at the helm the brand has gone stratospheric sitting firmly at the top of the luxury goods market.
