A history of Valentino
Valentino was born in 1932, in Italy and was always interested in fashion. At the age of 17 Valentino moved to Paris to study fashion and hone his skills. He studied with numerous fashion houses including Balenciaga. In 1959 Valentino left Paris for Rome where he opened a grand fashion house and started to make his mark on the world of fashion. Valentino became famed for his red dresses, in a shade that became known in the industry as ‘Valentino Red’.
Making his international debut in Florence in 1962, Valentino was an instant success with buyers and press alike and his label flourished. By the mid 1960s, Valentino was the master of couture, dressing the world’s most glamorous women such as Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. Today Valentino’s brand includes womenswear, menswear, and accessories including handbags and glasses.
