A history of Gucci
The Gucci label started as a luxury leather goods company when founded in Florence in 1921 by Guccio Gucci. Gucci had worked at London’s Savoy Hotel and used his native Tuscan craftsmanship to produce goods that he thought would appeal to the English nobility. The brand was an immediate success. Over the decades Gucci continued to develop iconic products, including glasses, sunglasses and other accessories, that were adopted by the rich and famous including Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelley, Liz Taylor and Princess Diana. In 2007 Gucci was named the most desirable brand in the world (Nielsen company).
