A history of Dolce E Gabbana
The Dolce & Gabbana brand was formed in Milan in 1982 by the Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The initial Dolce & Gabbana label specialise in luxury and offers formal and timeless sexiness that is in line with long term trends, not seasonal fads.
Dolce & Gabbana showed their first women’s collection in Milan in 1985 to great acclaim. They opened their first boutique in 1989 in Tokyo and it wasn’t long before they had the rich and famous of the day clamouring to wear their designs. They presented their first men’s collection in 1991 and haven’t looked back since. The brand has constantly evolved, yet they have never forgotten their roots in Milan fashion. They have expanded into lines such as fragrances, swimwear, handbags and glasses. They also introduced D&G, a more causal and affordable diffusion line of the main brand, following an urban inspiration for a younger target market.
With a strong brand identity, today’s fans of Dolce & Gabbana include Kate Hudson, Victoria Beckham and Madonna.
