What if my prescription has different measurements for near and distance?
If you require different measurements for near and distance, all of the necessary measurements can be entered on the Add Your Prescription page of the order process. For single vision lenses, choose ‘near’ if you need glasses for reading or close-up work. Choose ‘distance’ if you need glasses for seeing far-away objects. If you need glasses for using a computer, choose ‘intermediate’.
Do you offer prescription sunglasses and different tints?
We offer a wide variety of tints, available in many colours; or photosensitive glasses which automatically tint under sunlight and filters out harmful UV rays. You can add any of these options on our customisable order page.
What are your lenses made of?
Most of our lenses are made from lightweight plastic. In our experience, plastic lenses are far more durable and are less likely to scratch or break when accidentally dropped compared to traditional glass lenses.
What are frame measurements and how do I find them?
Frame measurements are how you get the right frame size for your face. Look at the arms of your glasses on one of them; you’ll see three small measurements and a little rectangle. These numbers represent the lens diameter [ ], the bridge width, and the arm length. Ignore the lens diameter the bridge width, and the arm length determines the fit. If you are comfortable with the way your existing glasses fit, then use the same measurements.
Can you tell my prescription from my existing glasses?
Yes. Send us your glasses with a mail-order form and we will be able to tell your existing prescription. We charge an extra £10 for this service, and we will return your old glasses. If you use this method, you must certify that you have a written prescription that’s less than two years old and that the glasses are made to this prescription.
I’ve received my new glasses but the frames need adjusting. What can I do?
Your local optician should adjust them for you. If you have any other problems, please contact us and a representative from WantGlasses will be happy to help
What is my pupillary distance?
The centre of each lens must align with the centre of your pupils. The pupillary distance measurement ensures that this happens In essence, it’s the distance between your pupils. When you get your prescription, make sure your optician also gives you your PD measurement. If you forget to ask your optician, you can contact us and we’ll give you an average PD measurement. If the measurement that was performed by us causes you problems like eye strain, we’ll gladly arrange to have your PD re-measured and replace your glasses, or refund your money.
I have a +8 sphere measurement. Can you help me with my prescription?
Yes. The maximum prescription we offer is ±8.00 SPH (sphere) and ±4.00 CYL (cylinder). We would recommend high index ‘Thin’ lenses for this prescription.
What segment shape are the bifocal lenses?
D28 is a standard bifocal lens. These lenses have the reading area set into the lens, in the form of a 'D' shape on its side. This is ideal for general use. If you need a very wide reading area, there are the D35 bifocal lenses or executive bifocals these types of lenses stretch right across the lens.
I would like to order frames with no prescription. Is this possible?
If your eyesight is fine and you want glasses just for a new look, you can order frames with ‘Plano’ lenses. Just choose ‘Plano’ under Sphere and Cylinder menus for each eye on the prescription form.
